Updated: Apr 22, 2020

At the 2019 Youth Presentation night, the Southport Sharks Junior AFL club awarded Life Member - Ken Mathews a "life Time Achievement Award" for 40 years of service to the football club.

Ken was made a life member of the club in 1992 after serving as a Coach and Management Committee member. Since then Ken has been a major part of the club in many different capacities including helping out with Canteen Coordination, game day set up's, Coach interviewer, sports trainer and a mentor to the years of Colts players that came through the club.

The U18's Colts Best & Fairest trophy is presented by Ken each year bearing his name on the perpetual trophy.

Ken's wife Kerry has been there with Ken over the journey and is a much loved and respected part of our great club. Although Ken continues to announce his retirement from the club, his love of the sport & players he mentors see's him return each year for another season.

In honour of Ken's dedication to our sport, the Southport Sharks & the Junior Club have renamed the junior club house, and will be known as the "Ken Mathews Club House"

Thanks Ken, from the thousands of kids that you have helped develop into young men & women.
